During the holiday season in Detroit you can find just about any object imaginable mashed into the shape of a mitten, or goods from some iteration of the “Detroit (fill in the blank) Co.”

And while each has it’s own little niche, it can be hard to sort your way through the myriad of Michigan inspired options to find a suitable gift for the ex-pat in your life.

So how does one support local business but still give the gift of Detroit? Well, one company, Breathe In Detroit, is offering an alternative that might be just what you’re looking for.

This local apparel company offers everything from super soft hoodies and headbands to equally awesome apparel for your pup, and have recently launched their latest creation, The Kindness = Hot Collection.

You can score sweatshirts, tanks and tees on Breathe In’s website. However, if you want to kick it up a notch and lock down the perfect holiday gift for the super attractive and kind person in your life, then consider snagging the newly announce gift package.

Included in the gift package are:

  • Your choice of “Kindness is Really Hot” Hooded Pullover (available in Women’s sizes S-XL, colors: Eco-Black, Eco-Grey, Eco-Stone)
  • H2Om Water Bottle in White or Black
  • Detroit Holiday Thank You Card from Breathe in Detroit and Forgotten Harvest

The shirts are made of Eco-Jersey fabric (organic and sustainable), and the bottles are made by Liberty Bottleworks in Yakima Valley, Washington.  They’re recycled aluminum, BPA free, and include a sport cap.

Another cool aspect of the water bottle is that they were engraved by a new company called Detroit Laser Co.

“Detroit Laser Co. also works with Liberty, which is an amazing new company that employs veterans, support National Park preservation, and are just pretty awesome all around,” said Cynda D’Hondt, owner of Breathe In Detroit.

The best part is that your purchase will not only impress whoever receives it, but also supports a great cause.

Currently, the company donates $2 from each sale to local non-profits in Detroit. Donations are directed to Detroit-based non-profits with little to no overhead, ensuring that virtually every dollar donated goes directly back into community efforts.

This holiday when you purchase any item from the Kindness collection, a chunk of that purchase will go to an important non-profit in the community, Forgotten Harvest.

“I contacted them specifically to work out a deal where I could state exactly what the package provides, and rest assured that all donation proceeds from the holiday gift package will directly provide meals,” said D’Hondt. “I decided on the amount that we could donate so we will provide a total of 16 meals, which amounts to four square meals for a family of four.”

The total cost for the package is $79, and you can find all the details on website. But if you want to show just how hot you are by giving back this holiday season, you need to act fast. We’re told the packages are selling fast.
