Storytelling is a thing. In this age of digital disconnection, where we’re often together alone on our phones on social networks, people are looking for ways to connect and get to know each other.

This event, “Let’s Just Say,” hosted by local writer, creative talent and show curator Amy Oprean, is a recently created series of storytelling events with the stories told by you, the people. The theme this month is “Disguises.”

The stories to be told are true — after all, truth is often stranger than fiction. The storytellers range from those who have never done it before to competition winners.

Oprean is charming, and if you’re a fan of the Society of Twisted Storytellers, or The Moth, this might be something you’re interested in, even though this event has its own, shall we say, twists.

And Go Comedy! in downtown Ferndale is a great venue for something like this because it’s about 100 seats and the drinks are affordable. And so are the tickets. $10 will get you in the door, and seating is first-come first-serve. You can buy tickets here.

We had Amy on our Daily Detroit News Byte podcast for our after the headlines interview. The conversation is below.
