EVENT LISTING:
Singer-songwriter and Violinist Amanda Shires will be performing at Shelter in Detroit, MI on Saturday, September 17. Shires is gearing up for the release of her album My Piece Of Land which has already been featured in Entertainment Weekly, Rolling Stone Country, No Depression and more. The album is set for release on 9/16 (same day as the show) and was produced by the award-winning Dave Cobb whom Amanda worked with on her husband’s (Jason Isbell) last two albums.
The project is an artistic milestone for Shires and explores a series of events and realizations in her personal life, including becoming a mother and completing a masters degree from The University Of The South (Sewanee). Shires wrote and recorded My Piece Of Land when she was pregnant and unable to travel. She used the time for self-reflection, and she used songwriting to soothe her growing anxiety.  A theme that runs through this album is “sense of place” which is illustrated in the song “You Are My Home” and also in “Mineral Wells” which speaks to always feeling connected to where you’re from originally.
Tickets are $15 per person. You can purchase them here.
