South Lyon, a small Oakland County city of 11,713 people as of 2016, doesn’t have anyone who wants to be its mayor.

Or at least none have filed to run for the office.

According to Hometownlife.com, the incumbent mayor, John Galeas, doesn’t want the job anymore either.

“It takes a considerable amount of time which, if I am being honest and fair to myself and the people, I just don’t have the time available anymore with my current career/job and personal life,” Galeas told Hometownlife. “I deeply care about the city of South Lyon for the right reasons.”

As of a 4 p.m. Tuesday afternoon filing deadline, only four people have filed seeking three council seats – and just one is running for re-election.

South Lyon is one of the more far-flung suburbs in the tri-county region, 45 miles west of the city of Detroit. Ann Arbor is less than 20 miles away from it.

It’s unclear what city officials are going to do about the situation.
