It’s September which means Oktoberfest season is upon us.

This is the second year for Parktoberfest in Campus Martius and Cadillac Square. Parktoberfest starts on Friday, September 16 at 5:00 PM with the ceremonial Tapping of the First Keg.

This weekend there will be plenty of things for adults and children to do.

There will be two beer tents. Big Bier Garden Tent will be for those 21 and over, where they will be serving over 25 different types of Craft and Oktoberfest beers. Atwater Brewery and Great Lakes Brewery will be there as well.

If beer is not your thing (or you’re under 21) there will be a Faygo Root Beer tent on Saturday. You can even add some vanilla ice cream to make it a float.

It goes without saying, but we need to anyway, that there will food available.

If you missed out on seeing the Polish Muslims at the Hamtramck Labor Day Festival now is your chance to see them play again. They will be performing on Saturday night from 9:00 PM-11:00 PM.

There will also be live performances from Immigrant Sons, The Corktown Popes, and Edelweiss.

There will be plenty of contests to try your hand out at; like keg rolling, a stein spree and stein hoisting in which contenders see who can hold a full mug of beer out in front of them the longest without any spills.

If there are kids joining in on the fun, there is a kids zone for them to hang out at. There will be free face painting, balloon animals, temporary tattoos, and a bounce house. There will also be pumpkin carving, and the Zucchini 500 Race.

For more information about Parktoberfest you can go to the Downtown Detroit Parks website.

Hours: Friday 5:00 PM-12:00 AM, Saturday 12:00 PM-12:00 AM.
