If you drive down West Grand Boulevard today in the city you might notice the giant 128 foot tower crane being installed.

According to the developers, currently this is the only crane of its type in Detroit.

The crane will be used to erect the mixed-use project Third and Grand which is being developed by The Platform.

When complete, the project will contain 356,000 square feet of space.

The project is a $53.2 million mixed-use development that’s replacing a surface parking lot.

Third and Grand will have 231 apartments, with 20% of them being available for low income residents.

Seventy-three percent of them will be studio or one-bedroom residences. The remainder will be two bedrooms, ranging in size from 908 to 1,158 square feet. There’s also going to be  a 330-space parking structure as well as 21,000 square feet of commercial space.

The mixed used development is expected to be open in the summer of 2018.
