You might of heard of Fellow Barber in Midtown. It’s a neat barber shop that is for the discerning devotee of a haircut and a shave that recently opened a Detroit location (there are three others in New York City and one in San Francisco). But while on a recent trip through and asking around, they showed us that there’s a bar under construction upstairs on the second floor.

Although it’s still in the beginning stages (they plan an opening sometime in the spring) the second-story view is very city-like and it’s surrounded by a litany of businesses that are turning this strip of West Canfield (and adjacent Cass to an extent) into a hive of activity, which Detroit needs more of. Dense, activated streets with a lot of things to do or enjoy. It’s truly possible to get lost for an entire afternoon on those couple of streets, especially when the new Jolly Pumpkin opens shortly.

This would be the first Fellow Barber with a bar, and is an interesting multi-use of their 1,800 square feet. The question is, do you have your cocktail before, after, or before and after your haircut?

If you’d like to stop in, they’re open 7 days a week, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and the exact address is 441 West Canfield Street, Unit 6.
