How are all of you fine people doing this week? We’ve had a few really great days to get outdoors before the cold snap comes back.
Let’s look ahead to this weekend, shall we? We’ve got some great events happening. I know that I’m looking forward to hitting a couple of them myself.

Freep Film Festival
Today kicks off the 6th annual Freep Film Festival, and I for one am excited.
The festival will have more than 80 screenings and events throughout the city over the next five days.
There are some pretty cool documentaries being screened during the festival. I know I’m excited about a few of them like; “Bathtubs Over Broadway”, “God Said Give Em’ Drum Machines: The Story of Detroit Techno”, “The Heat: A Kitchen (R)evolution”, and though it’s technically a mockumentary “This is Spinal Tap”.
I know that Sven will be checking out “Boy Howdy! The Story of Creem Magazine” which would also be a great choice.
Most of the tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door. Tickets to the special and marquee events during the festival range from $25 up to $100. You can purchase tickets here.
Screenings will take place at various times over the course of the festival.

Natalie Cole’s All-Star Review
I love a good drag show. Throw in drag queens who impersonate celebrities like Natalie Cole, Cher and Diana Ross and I am 100 percent on board for it.
If this sounds like a good time, then I suggest heading over to the Senate Theater on Friday night. There will also be an art show and sale.
The event is a fundraiser for Rebel Dog Rescue- Detroit which is a non-profit that is a no-kill rescue in the city. They are asking for people donate dog food, old sheets, towels, and cash to help the rescue.
Tickets for the event are $20 for general admission or $35 for VIP. You can purchase them online or at the door.
Don’t forget to tip your performers either! Bring those dollar bills.

Dequindre Cut Community Clean Up
Now that the snow is gone (hopefully), it’s time for a little Spring cleaning over at the Dequindre Cut.
On Saturday the Detroit Riverfront will be hosting its annual Dequindre Cut Community Clean Up.
You can register to volunteer here. They will provide gloves, trash bags, snacks and water.
Saturday, April 13 from 12:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m.
Check-in at the Dequindre Cut entrances at Woodbridge, Gratiot and Wilkins Street for registration and directions.
While I’m talking about volunteering, the DNR Outdoor Adventure Center is cleaning up Milliken State Park on Saturday as well. That event starts at 2:00 p.m. You can find out more information about the DNR cleanup here.
Motor City Soul Club: 5 Year Soul Stomp Spectacular
Get out your dancing shoes because this Saturday night is the 5th anniversary celebration of the Motor City Soul Stomp.
I know I write about the MCSS every month (and I’m not about to stop anytime soon) but this is a big deal.
Brad Hales, Erica Aytes and Dan Austin will be spinning all of the rare soul and funk music from the 1960’s and 1970’s. They will also be joined by some special guests throughout the night.
To celebrate they will be giving away some free swag throughout the night. They will have t-shirts for the first 50 people to come up and ask for one. There will also be stickers and buttons.
The Motor City Soul Stomp is free to attend, so what are you waiting for? Go and have a good time! Tell Dan I said I sent you.

18th Annual Greek Independence Parade
Who doesn’t love a good parade?
This Sunday is the 18th annual Greek Independence Parade. Fun fact, it is actually one of the largest Greek Independence Parades in the United States.
Before the parade starts there will be a Dignitary reception and dance performance at 1:00 p.m. at the Atheneum Suite Hotel.
There is also a Doxology service at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral at 2:00 p.m.
The parade kicks off at 3:00 p.m. at Campus Martius and Monroe Street. It will travel down Monroe Street through Greektown.
When: The parade starts at 3:00 p.m. and there will be an after party in the streets of Greektown.
Where: Monroe Street from Campus Martius to JACK/Greektown Casino.
