Hey there all you cool cats. It’s time for the weekend.

Just a quick reminder that the Quicken Loans Winter Blast Weekends resume this weekend in Campus Martius. The Winter Slide will be returning this weekend. So, that should be a lot of fun. Do it up. You can find all of the information for Winter Blast Weekends here.

Dirty Show 20

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, so if you want to get a jump start on the romance I suggest checking out the Dirty Show at the Russell Industrial Center the next two weekends.

This is the 20th Anniversary for this event that showcases erotic art in all of it’s forms. Be ready to see erotic photography, paintings, illustration, mixed media, video, and performances from around the world.

Tickets for the Dirty Show are $40 per person. There also some VIP tickets if you want to splurge.

This should go without saying, but the Dirty Show is for adults only. So cart those kids to your in laws or get babysitter for the evening.

Bridgett M. Davis: The World According to Fannie Davis: My Mother’s Life In The Detroit Numbers

If you have ever wanted to learn about the numbers game in Detroit before the state lottery came about, I have just the event for you.

On Saturday Bridgett M. Davis will be doing a book reading and signing for her new book The World According to Fannie Davis: My Mother’s Life In The Detroit Numbers at the Detroit Historical Museum.

Davis’s mom ran a numbers operation from her house during the 1960’s as a way to support her family. This story is fascinating to me.

When: Saturday, February 9 from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m.

The Detroit Historical Museum is located at 5401 Woodward Avenue Detroit, Michigan 48202

In the Heat of the Night at The Senate Theater

On Saturday night The Senate Theater will be showing the Oscar award winning movie In the Heat of the Night.

The main reason I am including this film in the City 5 this week is because it has been on my to watch list for far too long.

Tickets to see the movie are only $5 per person and you get a free organ performance before the show. I say that is a great night out.

When: Saturday, March 9 doors open at 7:00 p.m. and the film begins at 8:00 p.m.

The Senate Theater is located at 6424 Michigan Avenue Detroit, Michigan 48210

Saturday Bonus

Motor City Soul Club

It’s the second Saturday of the month which means that it’s time to get those dancing shoes on and head over to the Motor City Soul Stomp at the Marble Bar.

There’s no cover to go and it’s a hell of a lot of fun. Be sure to tell Dan Austin I said hello.

Saturday, February 9 from 9:30 p.m. – 2:00 a.m.

The Marble Bar is located at 1501 Holden Street Detroit, Michigan 48208

Vlntnsdymrkt 2019

Looking for the perfect gift for your Valentine?

Or maybe you just want to grab your Best Judy (aka gal pal) for some pre-Galentine’s Day festivities.

I’ve got just the event for you.

This Sunday is the 7th annual Vlntnsdymrkt at the Majestic Theater.

We all know I love a good vender market…and this one is the bees knees.

Be sure to stop by Sfumato Fragrances, ChicalooKate, and finally Cool Critters. My son absolutely loves his little Cool Critter that he got for Christmas…his name is Wally.

Anyway, I digress.

In addition to shopping there will be multiple make and take activities to do throughout the day. You’ll be able to make paper flowers, lip scrub, and felt fortune cookies. Stop and take a calligraphy class or make some screen printed Valentines. You can buy a wristband for the take and make activities for $10 bucks.

Admission to the market is just $1.

When: Sunday, February 10 from 12:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.

The Majestic Theater is located at 4120-4140 Woodward Avenue Detroit, Michigan 48201

Aphrodisiacs Cocktails at the Schvitz

I’m not sure if you’ve noticed a theme this week for City 5…but I’ve got romance on the brain.

So does the Schvitz.

They are hosting an Aphrodisiac Cocktail Pop-up with Lovedrug on Sunday night.

Come out for some cocktails made with “true Aphrodisiac elixirs.” If you don’t drink there will also be elixirs without alcohol.

The Schvitz is the only old school bath house left in the city…and it’s got a crazy history including being a hangout for the Purple Gang.

Man, now I want to go.

When: Sunday, February 10 12:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. for Ladies Brunch and 6:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. for Co-Ed night

The Schvitz is located at 8295 Oakland Street Detroit, Michigan 48211
