Hey there all you cool cats!

This weekend is almost here and I can’t be happier about it. There are some great events happening this weekend.

Let’s take a look…

The Detroit Musical

In honor of 313 Day yesterday, Planet Ant will be doing a limited run of The Detroit Musical this week at the Ant Hall.

The Detroit Musical follows the LaMerde family from the founding of Detroit in 1701 to present day.

Tickets are $17.01 if you buy them online or $20 at the door.

Be sure to stick around after the show on Friday or Saturday night because your tickets include entry into the Independant Comedy Club at the Ant Hall and Saturday Night Improv over at the Planet Ant Black Box across the street.

Thursday through Saturday 8:00 p.m. and Sunday at 6:00 p.m.

The Ant Hall is located 2320 Caniff Avenue Detroit, Michigan 48212

Hamilton Happy Hour

Hamilton is everywhere these days now that the Angelica production has made it to Detroit for it’s run at the Fisher Building. So, if you got tickets to the show — huzzah! If not, keep trying out that lotto on the Hamilton App or website.

On Friday the Polish Sea League will be holding a Hamilton Happy Hour to help raise money for 70 performing arts students from Hamtramck High School to experience the show through the Hamilton Education Program.

The students have been learning about the founding fathers and have each created an original performance piece. They will get to spend the day at the Fisher Theatre to perform their pieces and then will get to see Hamilton in the afternoon.

This is really a once in a lifetime event for these kids, so I think it’s great that the community is coming together to help them raise this money.

The suggested donation is $5 per person and you get pizza and a $1 off drinks. There will also be a 50/50 raffle.

Friday, March 15 from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.

The Polish Sea League is located at 2601 Edwin Street Hamtramck, Michigan 48212

The Secret Society of Twisted Storytellers: Ain’t I A Women

With it being Women’s History Month I wanted to highlight an event that I really love. The Secret Society of Twisted Storytellers.

The monthly storytelling event is headed up by phenomenal woman Satori Shakoor. Every month there is an interesting theme and storytellers from the area who share their personal story. There is also usually a musical guest and a dance performance, which makes it different from other storytelling events like the Moth or Risk!

This Friday is the next installment and the theme is Ain’t I A Women in honor of Women’s History Month. The show will be at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History in Midtown.

The storytellers for the evening will be, Jane Rennalls, Allo Greer, Jane Garcia and Yolanda Curry.

Tickets for the show are $20 in advance or $25 at the door. I suggest picking them up in advance.

The Charles H. Wright Museum is located at 315 E Warren Ave, Detroit, MI 48201

Lean on Me: José James Celebrates Bill Withers

I really love Bill Withers and his music. So when I saw that this weekend there was a performance honoring Withers’ musical legacy at The Cube inside The Max — I was sold.

On Saturday night José James will be performing Withers’ catalogue to celebrate the fact that Bill Withers will be turning the big 8-0 this year. He will perform hits like “Ain’t No Sunshine,” “Hope She’ll Be Happier,” and “Just the Two of Us,” but he will also perform some deep cuts.

Tickets for the evening of music will run you between $25 and $55 depending on if you want the VIP treatment or not.

Saturday, March 16 at 8:00 p.m.

The Cube is located inside the Max M. & Marjorie S. Fisher Music Center 3711 Woodward Avenue Detroit, Michigan 48201

The Green Party

The Detroit Shipping Company will be holding a little shindig this Sunday to celebrate all things green.

There will be plenty to do like live plant demos from Made Floral, handmade pots from Delicious Gold, and live music from Dan Tillery and the launch of -320’s new Vegan ice cream.

Did I mention that there will be plenty of Irish food and drink specials all day?

Hopefully the weather will participate because the outdoor courtyard is where it’s at.

Sunday, March 17 from 11:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.

The Detroit Shipping Company is located at 474 Peterboro Street Detroit, MI 48201
