Believe it or not, one of the best wedding ideas I’ve ever heard actually came from a man, who said his ideal wedding would simply have an open-bar and pinball machines.
Sadly, he’s taken.
Personally, the only thing I know about my special day is the song I’m walking down the aisle to, and the song that will play during the first dance as husband and wife. I haven’t thought much about where it’s going to be, but these five Detroit-Area chapels sure have got me thinking that it might just have to be in the mitten.
Inn At St. John in Plymouth
The Inn At St. John used to be a seminary for Catholic priests to earn their degrees in theology. Now, it is one of the most beautiful places to do anything big, and that includes full-service weddings. There are four ballrooms, a 27-hole golf course, two restaurants, gorgeous grounds, a AAA four diamond hotel and a very experienced wedding planning staff. Kirk In The Hills in Bloomfield Hills
Get ready for some of the most amazing architecture in Michigan. The majestic Gothic-style design was inspired by the 13th century Melrose Abbey in Scotland. The sanctuary is as stunning as the grounds, which are situated next to beautiful Island Lake. The only catch to having a wedding here is that the couple must be practicing Christians, or at least on their way to being such. Also, they must worship regularly as part of preparation for potential membership at Kirk In The Hills.

Historic First Congregational Church Of Detroit in Detroit
If you are a Detroit history buff, this church might be the coolest place to get married. The sanctuary is gorgeous, with a giant organ that takes up an entire wall. Back when the church was located closer to the Detroit river, it was one of the Detroit stops on the Underground Railroad. Now, the church is located in Midtown, and they do a wonderful reenactment tour of the escape experience. The church is very wedding-friendly, with several packages to choose from, or the option to cater your event.

St. Anne de Detroit in Detroit
Imagine getting married in the city’s first known church, built in 1701. This one is a little off the beaten path, nestled on the border of Corktown and Mexicantown, with a great view of the Ambassador Bridge. There is a large courtyard outside perfect for pictures and an outdoor reception, or you can take advantage of nearby Corktown to celebrate the big day. The neighborhood offers many reception venues, like MotorCity Wine, an intimate space with a great dance floor.

Old St.Mary’s Church in Detroit
This might be one of Detroit’s oldest churches, but you would never know once you step inside. The high ceilings covered in shiny gold and light blue paint are legitimately jaw drop worthy. Truly one of Detroit’s most gorgeous church interiors, it might actually make it difficult to focus on the bride (seriously). Located in the heart of Greektown, it’s perfect for wedding parties hosting out-of-town guests, with ample lodging and nightlife galore just a few steps away from the church.
