Did you know there’s more than DTE Energy and Consumers when it comes to Michigan and Metro Detroit’s power companies?

There’s a difference between who does the generation and who runs the bigger grid.

The grid behind it all is ran by ITC Holdings – and I think it’s a less-understood part of our infrastructure ecosystem, but just as important.

Maybe you’ve seen the signs on a high-voltage tower and wondered what they were. With high-voltage lines that send power across states, these are the metaphorical electric freeways and train lines that without, the system wouldn’t work.

I learned a lot in this conversation with Simon Whitelocke – the President of ITC Michigan and Vice President of ITC Holdings – up at the Mackinac Policy Conference.

Whatever you think of the current electric power situation in Metro Detroit and in our state, knowing how it’s set up matters.
