The 4th Annual “Walk For Warriors” fundraising walk this Saturday will see hundreds – if not thousands – of people participate in a mile long route geared toward everyone’s ability.
Patrons will enjoy pre and post event refreshments, entertainment, raffles and more at New Center Park. Detroit’s own R&B recording artist Tem LeMay will grace the stage with a music performance and, WXYZ Meteorologist Denise Isaac will be the event emcee. This year’s walk is sponsored by United Healthcare, St. John Providence, Rocket Fiber, Chrysan Automotive and UAW Local 869 (Tracy Pope). The top three fundraisers will be awarded with mountain bikes provided by United Healthcare.
The Lupus Detroit “Walk For Warriors” is set to kick off Saturday, September 3, 2016 at New Center Park located at 2998 W. Grand Blvd. in Detroit. Registration begins at 9:00 am and the Walk begins at 10:00 am.
All funds raised toward the $30,000 goal for the 4th Annual “Walk For Warriors” will continue to empower Lupus Detroit with the ability to offer emergency financial assistance grants in addition to awareness and advocacy events.
Per the Mayo Clinic, Lupus is a chronic inflammatory disease that occurs when your body’s immune system attacks your own tissues and organs.
Lupus Detroit believes that no Lupus Warrior should have to choose between purchasing their medication and buying food for their families.
“Lupus Detroit was born out of necessity. It’s always great to be educated about lupus because awareness is the key. Those suffering from the autoimmune disease lupus are faced with additional challenges, the possibilities of not being able to afford medications and doctor visits. This is where Lupus Detroit steps in. We know that we can’t provide assistance to everyone, but we can help someone. Lupus Detroit has awarded over $20,000 in financial grants for lupus patients in need, and we’re passionate about continuing to be there for them,” said Sharon L. Harris, the organization’s founder who is also a Lupus Warrior.
