Having a no-hitter slip out of your grasp when you’re only three outs away is disappointing, but Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander showed his class following an amazing outing Wednesday night. The no-hitter was broken when Chris Iannetta hit a double down the left field line that stayed just fair.

Verlander, although he does not have the velocity he did in earlier years, seems to have figured out the old adage that roughly goes “old age and treachery will overcome youth and skill.” He’s refined his technique to be just as devastating to batters without as much of the high heat of seasons past.
