Show notes
The Woodward corridor neighborhood favorite Mae’s (which we’ve written before about here) has been sold.
The new owners are Valter and Elda Xhomaqi, who own Birmingham brunch spot The Whistle Stop and Double EE Restaurant in Ferndale.

Those who will miss the creativity behind such hits as Mae’s Cap’N Crunch chicken tenders, will hopefully appreciate the Xhomaqi’s unique style. The Double EE’s Mac and Cheese omelet has quite the following.
According to current owner Jessica Lundgren, Mae’s “will be closing for a few days this coming week for renovations and then will reopen,” under new ownership.
“It was sold pursuant to a legal agreement with Sean,” Lundgren explained via Facebook. Sean Mccarthy is Lundgren’s ex-husband, who helped her open Mae’s in April 2010.
Since the May 1 announcement, there has been an outpouring of support for the owner. Comments that Mae’s was “run into the ground,” have been quickly shot down by social media fans. The staff at Daily Detroit have dined at Mae’s many times and we are sad to see it closed. We enjoyed swiveling in the bright turquoise seats and indulging in aebleskivers, their signature Scandinavian pancakes. Here’s to new chapters and next things, hoping for the best.
