Remember when French photographers were busy sharing ruinous images of the city?
Well, things have changed. On Thursday, April 27, an exhibit opens in the Fisher Building featuring the work Michel Arnaud, the photographer behind a new book, “Detroit: The Dream Is Now – The Design, Art and Resurgence of an American City.”
Eighteen images will be on display in the ornate lobby of the Fisher Building in New Center and the event runs from 5:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
Daily Detroit got our hands on a copy of Arnaud’s book and it is beautiful, filled with writings of Detroiters you might know like Sarah Cox, from the Write-A-House project and her work previously on Curbed Detroit; Jennifer Conlin, who also among other projects has been a New York Times correspondent covering Detroit; and Lynn Crawford, a fiction writer and art critic.
Beyond the writers, they feature stories of a variety of Detroiters and those involved in Detroit through 300 photographs across 272 pages.
The Thursday event is part of a larger series called The Beacon Project. It’s exhibitions, talks, symposiums and performances inside the Fisher Building. Remember that halfpipe a few weeks ago? That was part of it as well.
