Show notes
One of Detroit’s rowdiest days, Opening Day, is almost here! Monday, Detroiter’s from near and far will be reveling in the streets of downtown. But there’s plenty to do and see this weekend, especially if you need to, you know, be at work on Monday or just baseball isn’t your thing.
Friday: Tracksuit Party 3 – Whiskey in the Jar in Hamtramck has a new edition of their fun tracksuit party for a good cause. This week’s raffle benefits Team Pancake, who is raising money for pancreatic cancer. So be a good samaritan. Put on your tracksuit and come have a drink.
Saturday: Motor City Soul Club – Detroit has such a historic music scene, and Detroit’s soul revival night returns to St. Cece’s in Corktown. Dan Austin and Brad Hales will be joined by guest slinger Vicente Elizondo this time around. We’ll be bringing the best ’60s and ’70s soul around. Party starts around 10 p.m. and runs ’til 2 a.m. at St. Cece’s in Corktown. All vinyl, all night long. Cheap hooch and no cover, which we love. Drinking and dancing are encouraged.
Saturday: Katoi at Detroit City Distillery – Katoi, a hip restaurant soon to arrive in Corktown keeps popping up around town. We keep hearing great things about the food, and this week you can find them in Eastern Market’s Detroit City Distillery. Prices are reasonable and it’s first come, first serve, so get there on time (6:30 p.m.).
Saturday and Sunday: Wire Car Workshop – The Zimbabwe Cultural Center of Detroit is hosting this cool workshop where you can build the art car of your dreams. Bring some small wire and a pair of pliers and the rest is provided.
Sunday: Easter Sunday With Kirk Franklin – OK, so it is Easter after all, and figured we’d make a recommendation that, if it’s your thing, would be the most happenin’ dance-inducing Easter service we could think of. Eight a.m. at Cobo Center, then 9:45 a.m. at Plymouth Arena, then back at Cobo at 11 a.m. This event is free.
