We understand that this might be panda-ring to the crowd (sorry about the pun there), but we can’t help ourselves. Tofu is just too cute.
Tofu is red panda cub that was born June 22 to parents Ta-Shi and Shifu, and she made her big debut this weekend at the Detroit Zoo. Finally we’re glad to report she made her fluffy debut and we just can’t stop looking at these adorable pics.
These photos from the Detroit Zoo Facebook page show that Detroit’s newest exotic addition brings the cute.
“Ta-Shi took her time bringing her adorable baby girl out into public view, but it was worth the wait,” said Scott Carter, Detroit Zoological Society (DZS) chief life sciences officer. “We’re happy to welcome Tofu to the Detroit Zoo and to contribute to the captive population of this threatened species.”
The red panda is about the size of a house cat, with rust-colored fur and an white-ringed tail that averages about a foot and a half long. Red pandas are skilled and agile climbers, spending most of their time hanging from tree branches or lounging on limbs, and somewhat like most house cats, generally a solitary animal.
Found in the mountainous regions of Nepal, Myanmar and central China, red pandas are classified as “vulnerable” on the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s Red List of Threatened Species due to deforestation. So not only are these super cute, but very special animals.
