Show notes
Michigan’s natural beauty is something to behold – something you can’t stop watching. This 4x-speed video by Youtube user Nick Nerbonne is less than two minutes long, but well worth it.
For background, this is a roll cloud. A roll cloud is a low, horizontal, tube-shaped, and relatively rare type of arcus cloud. Roll clouds usually appear to be “rolling” about a horizontal axis, and are rare.
The unique motion is because of the winds changing speed and/or direction at the inversion. That’s when the air temperature reverses from its usual state, resulting in warm air on top of cool air, along which the weather disturbance is traveling, according to National Geographic. It requires a “perfect storm” of conditions, if you will.
