Royal Baby Shower To Benefit Mothers And Babies In Need

Show notes

Did you miss your chance to attend Prince William and Duchess Catherine of Windsor’s baby shower? Here’s your opportunity to make up for it.

The Metropolitan United Methodist Church in Detroit (8000 Woodward Ave) is hosting its third annual Royal Baby Shower benefitting Cass Community Social Services on Sunday, April 10 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. The event will collect necessary household items for mothers and babies in need.

The theme for the baby shower is “Every Baby Deserves A Royal Welcome,” and guests are encouraged to bring unwrapped baby gifts. Items needed include diapers, wipes, twin sheets, laundry detergent, personal care items, and formula. Monetary donations are also welcome.

Raffle tickets will be available for purchase, and the money will go directly to Cass’s shelter, which houses up to 70 women and children each night.

“Our shower started the year the Royals, Prince William and Duchess Catherine of Windsor were pregnant with baby George,” said Karen Whitefoot, event coordinator for the Royal Baby Shower. “As avid royal watchers, we wanted to honor the special event and do something for mom’s and babies that might not otherwise get showers.”

Guests are encouraged to wear their favorite chapeau, and a contest for the best hat will be held, with a special prize for the winner.

Celebrity judges of the contest include:

  • Alisa Zee, CBS Radio
  • Sandra McNeill, WWJ
  • Kimberly Russell, WXYZ
  • Rachel McCrary, WNEM
  • Dr. Partha Nandi, Health Reporter for WXYZ

Local pageant winners from the Miss America Organization will also mix and mingle with guests during the shower. Reverend Faith Fowler and Dr. Partha Nandi will give a presentation at the event.

Domino’s Pizza, The Union in Clarkston, California Pizza Kitchen, and Cass Community Catering will provide a complementary lunch. Detroit Bold Coffee will serve coffee and dessert.

The event does not require an RSVP. Information can be found on the Facebook Page or contact Karen Whitefoot at (248).535.0936.
