Need an inexpensive, family-friendly way to entertain the kids this summer? Check out the 2016 Quicken Loans Summer in the Park lineup. It’s got plenty of free events in downtown Detroit’s five historic parks – Campus Martius, Cadillac Square, Capitol Park, Grand Circus, and Paradise Valley’s Beatrice Buck Park.

Some of the highlights of Summer in the Parks include a performance by American Authors, Rhythm & Stage, Faygo Movie Night in the D, and Dot & Ziggy Kidz Show.

On July 22, Indie rock band American Authors will perform at 9 p.m. at Campus Martius Park. The group is most known for their triple-platinum number one hit “Best Day of My Life”.

Rhythm & Stage is a great way to enjoy stunning theatre, dance, opera, and aerial performance in the heart of Detroit’s theatre district. These live, outdoor events happen every Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Grand Circus Park.

Ready to see an outdoor movie? Faygo Movie Night in the D happens on Saturdays in July and August from 8 to 11 p.m. Bring a chair or blanket and head to Campus Martius to watch an award-wininng film on the big screen. Faygo beverages and Good People popcorn will be available for purchase.

Have little ones you need to entertain? Try out Dot & Ziggy Kidz Show on Saturday, July 23 at 1 p.m. in Campus Martius. The show tells the story of a ladybug and skunk who have trouble getting along; however, with help from the audience, they might just become friends.

After the kids show, there will be a make and take session, where kids can make their own hand puppets and take them home.

If you’re looking for events occurring all summer long, head to the Quicken Loans Sports Zone from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Sunday in Cadillac Square. There are four outdoor basketball courts and a sand volleyball area. If you’re more into beanbag toss, chess, checkers, or table tennis, try Outdoor Games in Cadillac Square from noon to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Music lovers should head over to Paradise Valley’s Beatrice Buck Park on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 to 8 p.m. Evenings in Paradise will showcase musical performances and entrainment by local and national jazz and R&B artists.
