Hello again Detroit! It looks like we’ve managed to stave off the cold for another week, and I think it’s time to celebrate with a healthy blend of booze, yoga, puppies, and a whole lot more.

So here it is, your City 5.

1. Meet Your Best Friend at the Zoo – Friday – Sunday – Royal Oak

Winter is well on its way, and it’s time to start thinking about who/what you’re going to be spooning on those cold nights.

If you’re out of luck in the love department, don’t fret, because this Friday-Sunday The Michigan Humane Society, Detroit Zoological Society, and Purina will host the annual Meet Your Best Friend at the Zoo adoption event. Hundreds of dogs, cats, puppies and kittens will be available for adoption from 40 animal welfare organizations, including the Michigan Humane Society.

This FREE event runs from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, September 18, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, September 19, at the Detroit Zoo in Royal Oak.

2. Octoberfest at Batch Brewery – Saturday 12:00 p.m. – Detroit

Oktoberfest has arrived, and Breweries all across the city are throwing down to celebrate.

Check out one of the city’s newest spots, Batch Brewing Company, as they throw their first annual celebration of beer drinking culture.

The event kicks of at 12 p.m. and runs til 1 a.m. and will feature live music, food, and tons of great beer brewed right here in Detroit.

Tickets are $30 and will get you a 1L stein and a 1L beer, a 1/2 chicken and German potato salad meal, plus a reserved seat. If you dress in the traditional Oktoberfest garb of Dirndl and Lederhosen, you earn $1 off your beer.

The stein also earns 1/2 stein fills for $4! Or 1L fills for $7 through October 3rd, so this is one gift to yourself that will keep on giving.

3. Tour Detroit Bike Ride – Saturday – Detroit

On Saturday, saddle up your two wheeled steed and cruise through the city with the 14th annual Tour Detroit bike ride!

Join thousands of other Detroiters on a tour of some of the city’s historic areas, enjoy the city’s most breathtaking sights, and a unique opportunity to legally “take over” the streets of Motown.

4. Photo Day at the Russell – Saturday – Detroit

On Saturday, head down to one of the city’s main creative hives, The Russell Industrial Center, as they host a very special and rare open house event. You can tour the work spaces of the some of the city’s finest artists to get a first hand look at their work, and purchase art to spruce up your home before we dive head first into winter.

Share your photos using the hashtag #RussellindustrialCenter and be entered for the chance to have your work featured as the cover photo of the Russell Facebook page for a month.

The event runs from 3-10 p.m. and is free to attend, so don’t miss your chance at this rare glimpse inside the Russell.

5. Woodbridge Pub Bottomless Mimosas – Sunday – Detroit

On Sunday, make your way over to Woodbridge pub and enjoy their saucy Sunday special – $11 bottomless mimosas.

That’s right, for just $11 bucks you can make a smooth transition from hungover to buzzed, which will likely be followed by a glorious afternoon nap.

In addition to the booze, you can enjoy their farm-fresh brunch menu, featuring classics like French toast and corn beef hash, in addition to unique specials like the Irish tofu scramble or Thai peanut tofu.
