It is hard to believe that October 1 is this Sunday. I know it is cliché to say that this year is going by so fast, but it really has.

This weekend is once again packed full of things to do. I had a really hard time narrowing down the list, so I might have added in a bonus.

Let’s get to this list.

Buhl Bar Presents Nichole New

Looking for a good date night option downtown for Friday night? I’m going to suggest checking out Nicole New at the Buhl Bar.

Generally the Buhl Bar is only open during happy-hour, but on Friday night they will be staying open later for a little after glow.

There will be a $10 entertainment fee added to all tabs for the evening.

Hours: 8:00 p.m. 10:30 p.m.

The Buhl Bar is located inside the historic Buhl Building at 535 Griswold Street Detroit, Michigan 48226

Scarab Club 110th Birthday Party

The Scarab Club has aged pretty well at 110 years old, and they will be throwing a little soiree this Friday evening.

If you are a lover of artistic expression then you should really get tickets to this party.

Word on the street is that there will be a pop-up exhibition of Robert Hopkin’s work. The Scarab Club was originally named after Hopkin when it was first started.

There will be live portrait sketches, a photo booth, music from the Live at the Scarab Club house band, a strolling dinner, and open bar.

Tickets are $40 per person.

When: Friday, September 29 from 7:30 p.m.-11:00 p.m.

The Scarab Club is located at 217 Farnsworth Street Detroit, Michigan 48202

P.S. If you can’t make it to the birthday party, might I suggest the Thelonious Monk Tribute on Sunday afternoon?

Silent Disco and Night Market Season Finale at Beacon Park

This Saturday night is the final Night Market at Beacon Park for the season. Come out and grab some goodies from local vendors.

Bring your headphones because the Silent Disco will once again return. Three DJs will be playing music on separate channels for you to listen to.

Hours: 7:00 p.m.-12:00 a.m.

Beacon Park is located at 1903 Grand River Avenue Detroit, Michigan 48226

Open Streets Detroit

Open Streets Detroit returns this Sunday, October 1. The event will take place along a 3.5 mile stretch of Michigan Avenue and Vernor Highway. In fact those streets will be closed to cars for five hours.

The event will have a ton of fun things to do, and it will be family friendly.

If you have yet to listen to our most current episode of the Daily Detroit Happy Hour, I suggest you do because Sven interviewed Lisa Nuszkowski. She had a part in planning Open Streets Detroit.

2017 Detroit Design Festival

I have been looking forward to the Detroit Design Festival since earlier this year when I got a preview of the designers that went to the 10th International Design Biennale in Saint-Etienne, France.

I wrote an entire post about my top 5 things to do during the DDF here. Head over to that post to get more information.

Bonus

Good Cakes and Bakes 4th Anniversary Party

If you are already going to Light Up Livernois on Saturday night during DDF then you HAVE to stop into Good Cakes and Bakes.

They will be celebrating the bakery’s 4th anniversary of opening on the historic Avenue of Fashion.

There will be music, face painting, and a pie eating contest at 7:00 p.m.

The party will take place on Saturday, September 30 from 3:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m.

Good Cakes and Bakes is located at 19363 Livernois Avenue Detroit, Michigan 48221
