Over the years, I’ve learned golfing is a thing.

Although I’m terrible at hitting a stationary little white ball in a desired direction, there are lots and lots of people who at least try to be good at it and have fun.

There’s a new Topgolf “Swing Suite” in the MGM Grand Detroit Casino Hotel.

It’s in the old Ignite space and has a dedicated elevator up from the casino floor.

I’d show you a picture of where that is, but there’s no photography allowed on the casino floor. So here’s the sign upstairs.

So what’s Topgolf? It’s a national chain of what could be best called as golf-like experiences.

They have large facilities across the country (and are building one in Auburn Hills) designed to appeal both to golfers and non-golfers who are just looking for some fun. There’s a game tied to the experience, as well.

The “Swing Suite” is different as it’s more of a lounge kind of thing, and you hit the balls into a net with a projection screen that has the digital game. There are three bays available.

There are also arcade games on the same floor for the non-golfer or if you need to take a break, like pool, shuffleboard, basketball hoops, and a giant Pac-Man. I spotted no casino games in the space.

Although I embarrassed myself at the tee, I didn’t find myself out of place at all.

The menu is a twist on the standard MGM fare with some unique options. It’s solid bar food. The sliders were on point.

The MGM Grand Detroit Topgolf Swing Suite is open to the public starting today and is for ages 21+.

The space is open 2-10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 2 p.m. to midnight Friday, noon to midnight Saturday and noon to 10 p.m. Sunday.

It’s not the cheapest out there, with bay rental prices beginning at $40 per hour, but split among two or more folks that’s not bad at all.

MGM Grand Casino Hotel is located at 1777 3rd Avenue in Detroit.
