A property that once was home to an icon of Detroit’s restaurant history is going to see new life.
This piece of land that hasn’t been commercially used since Joe Muer’s closed in 1998 is in what is now a prime location.
The unusually shaped property sits along Gratiot Avenue at St. Aubin and up against the popular Dequindre Cut. The site, near Eastern Market, will be redeveloped through an agreement between The Platform, and DVP LLC.
The nuts and bolts of the announcement indicate we’re still in early days when it comes to the plans.
They have an architect, Gensler Detroit — and the developers are “in the concept phase” in decided whether they will build multifamily, commercial and/or retail space on the 4.8 acre spot.
According to press materials, under the deal DVP LLC and The Platform will co-own the land, and The Platform will develop it.
The Platform is quickly becoming a firm to watch when it comes to Detroit development.
Although their holdings and capital aren’t as extensive as Dan Gilbert, the adroit dealmaking of their chairman Peter Cummings and president and CEO Dietrich Knoer has been on display as of late.
They own the Fisher Building, are building new apartments and retail on Grand Boulevard and Third, recently fixed up a garage near their New Center holdings, and bought the old Big Boy site on Jefferson, among other deals.
