Hello, hello, hello!

Let me be the first one to wish all of our moms out there a very Happy Mother’s Day.

You are all doing a great job. Sometimes this forest can really suck, but each day you wake up and make a difference in the lives of your children.

I see you out there getting stuff done. Keep up the good work you guys. May you all get the self care you need and deserve this Mother’s Day.

Alright, let’s get to the City 5.

Grand Opening of the Grand Marketplace

There is a new pop-up maker’s space over on Grand River and Greenfield. It’s called The Grand Marketplace, and it sounds pretty great.

The space is a 14,000 square foot market that features individual units for small businesses to set up shop.

My friend Brianna over at DCreated Boutique will be there. I’m sure she has some super cute spring and summer baby clothes. Just in time for warm weather.

There will be over 12 independently owned vendors and makers at the grand opening party this Saturday. There will be lingerie from Breakfast at Six, jewelry from The Queens Treasured Jewels, and the Yogurt Box.

Stretch Sumn will be doing beginning yoga at 11:00 a.m. it is $10 to participate in the session.

Love, Midtown- Spring Event

On Saturday Midtown is going to be hopping during the Love, Midtown event. There will be sidewalk sales, trunk shows, live music and kid friendly activities for many of businesses in Midtown.

Here are my top picks for the entire event.

Detroit Clothing Circle x Sfumato Fragrances/Castalia will be having their official patio opening party.

Celebrate Spring at Will Leather Good by dancing around the Maypole.

Check out Source Booksellers and their “Mother’s Read Out Loud” event.

Avalon International Breads will have cookie decorating outside on the patio for kids and a gift box for mom.

Head over to 3rd Street to get a peek at the newly reopened Willis Show Bar. They will have live music and cocktails.

When: Saturday, May 12 from 12:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m.

Where: Multiple locations around Midtown

Mommy Dearest

If you have ever picked up a wire hanger and held it up over your head and screamed “NO WIRE HANGERS… EVER!” this event is for you.

Our/Detroit will be showing the 1981 classic Mommy Dearest on  Saturday. Faye Dunaway as Joan Crawford is everything.

Dress in your best Hollywood flair and have a little pre-Mother’s Day celebration. What better way to really appreciate the moms in your life like by watching the epitomy of a toxic and abusive parent.

Come for the movie, but stay for these specialty cocktails:

“Box Office Poison”
“Aces Beats Kings”
“Smart-Alek Back Talk”

There will also be snacks.

When: Saturday, May 12 from 12:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m.

Where: Our/Detroit 2545 Bagley Street Detroit, Michigan 48216

Brunch It Up for Mother’s Day

You know your mom doesn’t want to have to cook y’all breakfast. Because if she cooks breakfast, she’ll probably have to do the dishes after. And if she does the dishes, she’ll have to put them away.

It’s kind of like the mom version of If You Give A Mouse A Cookie.

So, why not take your favorite mom out for brunch.

Now, just remember that most restaurants will be crazy busy. Mother’s Day one of the busiest days of the year in the restaurant industry.

So what are some of my top picks?

Batch Brewing will be having Mother’s Day Bruch with Anthology Coffee, beer slushies, Caprese Benedict, Smoked Salmon Frittatas, Bubble Waffles and Pineapple Upside Down Bread Pudding.

The best part? There is no reservations needed.

Brunch at Batch Brewing will be from 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. and the regular menu will be available after 4:00 p.m.

Batch Brewing is located at 1400 Porter Street Detroit, Michigan 48216

The House of Pur Vin will be hosting an afternoon brunch for Mother’s Day.

Chef Cedric Andrews will be preparing Chicken and Waffles, Shrimp and Grits, and more.

There will also be wine selections from Master Sommelier Claudia Tyagi and Sommelier Michael Calvert.

Brunch will be served between 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.

The House of Pur Vin is located at 1433 Woodward Avenue
Detroit, Michigan 48226
