Now, when you buy a Detroit bus pass, you’ll get a free 30-day MoGo bike share pass.

That’s part of a new deal between the city’s department of transportation and the bike share system that is good for weekly, bi-weekly or monthly DDOT bus passes.

Although met with some initial skepticism, by most objective measures MoGo, a service that focuses on the greater downtown with 43 bike stations, has been a success. It’s had higher ridership than expected — and no, people aren’t just stealing the bikes.

The pilot program kicks off today — July 2nd — and will be limited to 2,000 free passes. To get your pass, you’ll need to go to one of three spots… The Rosa Parks Transit Center, the DDOT main office over on Warren, or city hall (Coleman A. Young Municipal Center).
