There will be a new farmers market every week located across Jefferson from the entrance to the Belle Isle bridge.

The Platform and GenesisHOPE have partnered to bring a weekly marketplace to the parking lot of the former Big Boy Restaurant on Jefferson and East Grand Boulevard.

The Islandview Village Marketplace will happen every Friday from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. The Marketplace will be open weekly from June 30 until September 29.

The marketplace will offer shoppers over a dozen vendors including the Eastern Market Farm Stand. If the demand increases the market can host up to 40 vendors.

GenesisHOPE is no stranger to bringing a farmers market to the east side of Detroit. They also run the Islandview Farmers Market at Mack and East Grand Boulevard every Wednesday during the summer.

“We were eager to expand our farmers market’s offerings, so when the Platform approached us about adding another location in the neighborhood, we were ecstatic,” said Jeanine C. Hatcher, executive director of GenesisHOPE. “Our mission is to provide a variety of good food options while creating an environment that fosters social and community connections and supports entrepreneurial opportunities.”

The Platform purchased the Big Boy site in March. Long term plans for the site are still being considered.

The Islandview Village Marketplace will be held on the corner of Jefferson Avenue and East Grand Boulevard in the parking lot of the former Big Boy.
