I know that technically winter doesn’t start until December 21, however it seems that the freezing temperature and snow has finally decided to grace us with it’s presents. Frankly, I’m already ready for spring.

There is only one week left before Christmas, and if you’re like me you’re probably scrambling to get everything together.

So what can you expect this weekend for events? There’s some shopping, lots of buses, alcohol, and kids wearing gloves (boxing gloves that is).

Merry & Bright: The Holiday Light Tour – Detroit

This is a great way to check out all of the great holiday light displays without having to do all of the driving.

The Detroit Bus Company is hosting a bus tour that takes you through Campus Martius, Boston Edison, The Detroit Zoo Wild Lights, and Wayne County Light Fest.

Get decked out in your favorite ugly sweater and share in some holiday caroling while you’re on the bus. They will be having a contest for the gaudiest sweater, so bring your A game people.

Tickets are going to run you $49.99 for adults and $39.99 for kids. I know the price seems pretty steep, but this covers all entrance fees, plus drinks and snacks on the bus. Like most DBC tours it is BYOB – bring your own booze – if you are over the age of 21.

The tour begins at 5:30 p.m in front of Foran’s Grand Trunk and ends at 10:30 p.m.

Foran’s Grand Trunk is located at 612 Woodward Avenue Detroit, Michigan 48226

Friday night is sold out, but they still have tickets for Saturday and Sunday. (They have tours every night until December 30, so don’t worry if you can’t make it this weekend).

USA Boxing Silver Gloves Tournament – Detroit

Earlier this month we brought you a post about the USA Boxing Silver Gloves Tournament being held at the Downtown Boxing Gym Youth Program.

Youth boxers from Michigan are coming to Detroit this weekend to participate in the tournament. Boxers range from at 8 to 15.

The DBGYP does a ton of great work for kids in Detroit, and this is a great way to see the impact they have on the daily lives of these kids.

Tickets for the tournament is $15 for the day or $25 for a weekend pass.

Weigh-ins begin at 7 a.m, and boxing starts at 1:00 p.m.

Downtown Boxing Gym Youth Program is located at 6445 East Vernor Highway Detroit, Michigan 48207

17th Annual Detroit Santarchy – Detroit

If a bar crawl sounds like a fun to you, this is the big daddy of the holiday season.

The Detroit Santarchy bar crawl is organized by the Detroit Gaelic League Irish American Club of Detroit, and it has been going on for the past 17 years.

Here’s the main rule, all who come MUST be dressed in a full holiday costume. The options are limitless; it could be Santa, Mrs. Claus, an elf, reindeer, Grinch, Scrooge, or Krampus. (So leave your ugly Christmas sweater at home, they want the full monty.)

The opening ceremony begins at 7:00 p.m at the Gaelic League in Corktown. There will be shuttles taking partiers to the different bars throughout Detroit.

You can find out all of the additional information on the Santarchy website.

Bus passes are $20 per person. The bus pass and your costume will get you in to all the bars and clubs without having to pay a cover fee.

The evening starts at 7:00 p.m, busses start returning to the Gaelic League around 1:00 a.m.

The Gaelic League is located at 2068 Michigan Avenue Detroit, Michigan 48216
