Welcome to the City 5 weekly event round up. This week we’re bringing you a smattering from around the metro area, and we’re delivering it a little bit early because of the short holiday week. For more details on the event such as exact times and locations, click the link to the event page.

1. DIA event – Photographs from the Detroit Walk-In Portrait Studio by Corine Vermeulen

Dutch photographer Corine Vermeulen was commissioned by the Detroit Institute of Arts to capture diverse Detroiters in their element. She set up temporary walk-in portrait studios in various Detroit locations starting in the summer of 2013. She used community organizations and groups across the city including Recycle Here, D-Town Farms, neighborhood bicycling group the East Side Riders and teens from Detroit Focus Hope in order to find subject. Participants were asked about their current and future vision of Detroit, and the responses will accompany the portraits. This exhibit has been running since November 14, and will be shown through May 17, but we suggest checking it out now! Click Here for additional information.

2. Tuesday Market at Eastern Market

It’s a tradition now at Eastern Market that it opens the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, so that Detroiters can stock up on fresh, locally sourced food for their turkey day meals. There will be turkeys and other types of meat from Michigan Farms, fresh veggies, homemade pies, and your Eastern Market favorites. The market will be located inside Shed 3 from 9am to 3 pm on November 25.

3. Sips Gastropub Grand Opening of Room 27

The night before Thanksgiving, Sips Gastropub Washington Township is celebrating the opening of Room 27, a cigar-bar and cocktail lounge that will serve a slightly different menu than the rest of the spacious restaurant, which opened earlier this year and his been getting lots of praise for the elevated food and drink that they offer.  The opening of Room 27 will feature beats from DJ Danno, dancing, cocktails, and great food.

The event offers information about local retailers, special discounts, and provides a free shuttle service to retail options throughout greater downtown.
