We wrote last year that Charivari is a must-do for your party calendar, and so here’s the details on the 2016 edition. If you weren’t with us last year and didn’t read how Charivari captures the heart and soul of the city – go back and do that now.

Done? Ok. Let’s talk about this year.

Starting out in Milliken Park in 2014, Charivari migrated to the beautiful island state park last year and this year promises to be better than ever.

A few things to note. Charivari isn’t about gigantic beat drops with $50,000 of special effects with each set, and passes on the cake-throwing. It’s a very Detroit affair – intimate, passionate, relaxed, come-as-you-are – and feels (at least to some of us who remember the old party scene) a lot like the gatherings that made a good deal of people fall in love with this city in the first place.

The event is officially August 6 and 7, 2016; there’s also a warm-up part at The Works on that Friday the 5th if you’re interested with a lineup to be announced.

The weekend lineup is full of three stages of hometown talent. You have a “who’s who” of the Detroit techno, electronic and house scene. Here’s a sampling, if you will:

  • Kai Alce
  • Juan Atkins
  • Al Ester
  • Eddie Fowlkes
  • DJ Godfather
  • Mike Huckaby
  • Terrence Parker
  • Patrice Scott
  • Delano Smith,
  • Rick Wilhite
  • Keith Worthy

Get your full lineup card at the Facebook event page.

There is a change we have to tell you about – tickets are required this year. You get the whole weekend for $25 if you hit up a participating record store – and whether you’re reading this in Pittsburgh or Portugal, there’s a place to grab tickets (complete list on the event page). Children will be admitted entry for free as will teenagers with a high school ID.
