According to the 2016 Kids Count Michigan study, child poverty has gone up in 80 of 83 Michigan counties since 2006.

With that in mind, Gleaners Community Food Bank is asking businesses and organizations in southeast Michigan to help fight childhood hunger by joining the 23rd Annual Hunger Free Summer Food Fight starting Monday, July 17, 2017 through Friday, July 28, 2017.

The food and fund drive already has 23 businesses signed up to compete to raise the most meals over the two-week period.

Gleaners hopes to double that number by the time the competition begins.

More than 40 southeast Michigan businesses and organizations participated last year. They raised enough food and funds to provide more than 329,000 meals to hungry southeast Michigan children this summer.

The Food Fight has provided 2,076,726 meals for hungry families in southeast Michigan over the last decade.

All companies have an equal chance of being a Food Fight winner. Participating companies are grouped by number of employees and compete against others in their “weight category” for the Madeline Kafoury Memorial Trophies.

In addition to greatest “weight,” winners will be selected for special awards: Facebook Fan Favorite and the New Participant.

If your business wants to sign up, you can do it here: www.gcfb.org/hfsfoodfight.
