The much debated burger spot that is soon to go into the corner of Griswold and Grand River in Capitol Park has changed names and defined a bit more of their concept.
Created by the same team behind Voyager in Ferndale, owner Eli Boyer and co-chefs Justin Tootla and Jennifer Jackson, the concept formerly known as “Loverboy” is now called “Lovers Only.”
Lovers Only will focus on “delicious food and warm hospitality” but this time in a “fast casual setting.”
“Our ambition is to create a true experience within the fast casual space, through heartfelt hospitality, thoughtful service, and other layers that are often disregarded in similar restaurants. That warmth and level of care is our greatest differentiator, and we aim to carry it with us to Lovers Only,” says Eli Boyer, “I could not be more thrilled to continue working with Jennifer and Justin on another project, and we’re so excited to share the experience with Detroit.”
Capitol Park, named as such because it used to be where Michigan’s state capitol was located, has had a lot of retail and restaurant openings over the last couple of years.
Hot Take: Fast casual could fit well as the de facto kitchen for the new 260 square foot micro-apartments upstairs of the space at 34 W. Grand River (they don’t have ovens, after all). There’s also the nearby residential buildings like the Lofts of Merchants Row, Broderick, Aloft, and others. Not to mention, there’s that office lunch crowd looking to stretch their legs from their cubicles located within a couple blocks.
