If you have spent any time on Belle Isle in the past few summers, you might have noticed that the waterslides on the north side of the island are no longer being used.
The slides were closed in 2013 because they were no longer safe.
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and the Belle Isle Conservancy have proposed removing the slides and replacing them with a splash pad.
The new proposed splash pad is part of the Belle Isle Beachfront Revitalization project.
The DNR and Belle Isle Conservancy are inviting the community out for two interactive workshop to review proposed themes, answer questions and gather public input.
The proposed plans will be on display for the community to see.
People are welcome to attend at any time during either workshop, and children are encouraged to participate.
The first workshop will be on Tuesday, July 18 at the Belle Isle’s Flynn Pavilion from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
The second workshop will be held on Tuesday, July 25 at the Belle Isle Nature Center from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
