Mike Ilitch was 87 when he passed away earlier this year, and in many ways he left a mark on the city and region. Whether it was through his Little Caesars Pizza, the Detroit Red Wings or Detroit Tigers, or many other ventures, he’s a figure who loomed large on the Detroit stage.

To honor him, a bi-partisan bill with support from state senator (and mayoral candidate) Coleman Young Jr. and the most recent guy who got caught in online controversy over guns in Detroit, state senator Rick Jones, along with senators David Knezek, Morris W. Hood III and Ken Horn was introduced to the Michigan State Senate.

The bill would rename Woodward between Montcalm Street and East Adams Avenue as “Mike Ilitch Boulevard.” It’s currently under review by the transportation committee.
