ECTO-1. One of the most recognizable vanity license plates in cinema.

And it’s over at the Detroit Grand Prix on Belle Isle this weekend. One of those will make any movie buff happy – they’ve rolled out from California the original Ghostbusters car from 1984.

The base of the vehicle is a 1959 Cadillac GM professional chassis – made for hearses and ambulances.

It’s owned by Sony Pictures and normally lives in Culver City, CA. Locally there was the Great Lakes Ghostbuster Coalition repping it and taking pictures with fans, Michael Brewer and Adam Lallone. There’s a new Ghostbusters movie due to come out next month – July 15, 2016 – so they’re obviously making the P.R. rounds.

The car still runs and drives (though for the most part it was transported over, and then took a drive across the Belle Isle Bridge – that must have been a sight), and it’s interesting to see what’s obviously props under close inspection, but it’s cool a blast from more than 30 years ago of cinema past.

The car will be on Belle Isle at the Grand Prix today and tomorrow. Look for the Sony setup near the entrance. More pics below.
