Peek Inside Founders, Detroit's Newest Destination Bar

To say that there has been a lot of buzz around the new Founders in Midtown is an understatement. National publications have been picking it up, one positioning it the anchor of Detroit as America’s next beer city, as well as every outlet in town. Today, I got a chance to take a peek inside of the 14,000 square foot space before the doors swing open to the public at 3 p.m. on Monday. You’ll also get a look at the price points, as the menus are below. And as far as a brewery goes, Foun...

Two Michigan Breweries Were Just Ranked #1 And #2 In America

At one time, Michigan’s license plates read “Winter Wonderland.” Maybe they should come out with a new edition – “Beer Wonderland.” Michigan breweries took two top spots in the Zymurgy Magazine “Best Beers In America” ranking, endorsed by the American Homebrewers Association. Those breweries were Bell’s Brewery out of Comstock and Founders Brewing Company from Grand Rapids. Michigan also took the top spot for beer, with Bell’s Two Hearted coming in at number one. It’s an American IPA that...

Michigan's Jolly Pumpkin Tapping Into Chicago, Will Open Restaurant And Brewery In Hyde Park

Jolly Pumpkin is a local favorite here, with their Midtown Detroit, Ann Arbor and original Traverse City locations doing a brisk business. Word is that that the popular eatery and brewery will be opening a fourth location in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago, near the University of Chicago, in 2017. It’s going to run 5,800 square feet and the restaurant will serve craft beers, distilled spirits, and wines available through the Northern United Brewing Company (NUBC) brand – including Joll...

A Look Inside The Newest, Coolest Hub Of Craft Beer In Detroit

Despite the escalating success of the craft brewing industry in Michigan, it’s still a challenge to find a high quality beer shop within Detroit’s city limits. Beyond a meager selection, you’ll be hard pressed to find a clerk with superior beer knowledge, and a passion for the now well established craft beer culture. Those days are finally done, though. Craft beer nerds rejoice, because 8 Degrees Plato is finally open in the Cass Corridor section of Midtown, and it’s packed with the finest b...

The owners of the HopCat chain of breweries, Barfly Ventures LLC, have secured $25 million in new financing from two undisclosed Texas investors through the Birmingham based investment banking firm, Cascade Partners LLC. The newly acquired funds afford the Grand Rapids-based company enough cash to double their current expansion plan, allowing for 6 new HopCat openings per year for the next 5 years, including 6 new brew pubs coming in the next year alone. HopCat, which recently opened its now...

Michigan Listed As One Of The Top 5 States For Beer In America

There’s no doubt about it, Michiganders love their brews. And we have good reason to. With such well known options like Bell’s Oberon, Founders or Atwater to the lesser-known like the excellent Ninja Chicken by Falling Down Beer Company or the wonderful small batches Batch Brewing Company produces (along with many other great producers) it’s not a surprise to us where Michigan places on the list at number four, only behind Colorado, California and Oregon. Says Yahoo! Travel/Thrillist: [quo...

Go ahead, ya lush, order another brew. You’re actually helping out the mitten with each sip. Pedal Pubs Could Be Coming To Michigan Very Soon

You might have seen them on the internet, but not on the streets of Detroit – well, not legally, anyway. Under legislation approved by the Michigan House and Senate (with the House approving Thursday), drinking alcohol on certain pedal-powered vehicles is now going to be AOK if Governor Snyder signs off. Alcohol would be allowed to be served on commercial, open-air, pedal-powered vehicles, so long as the vehicle’s owner has liability insurance. Having open alcohol on the vehicles could still...

Atwater Brewery, founded in 1997 has been one of Michigan’s fastest growing craft breweries.
