Hey there everyone!

I hope that this week has gone off without a hitch.

Things have been pretty good over in this neck of the woods.

We’ve got some pretty fun events going on this weekend, so let’s get this thing started shall we?

Brother Wayne Kramer at the Hamtramck Public Library

Brother Wayne Kramer, of the iconic Detroit band the MC5 will be stopping by the Hamtramck Public Library this Friday night to discuss his memoir The Hard Stuff: Dope, Crime, The MC5, and My Life of Impossibilities.

I wish I would have been alive to see the MC5 play at the Grande Ballroom.

If you or even your parents are fans of the MC5, I highly suggest hitting up this event. Wayne Kramer will also be performing live music during the event, so that’s cool.

There’s no charge, but space is limited so get there early to get a spot.

Friday, June 21 from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m.

The Hamtramck Library is located at 2360 Caniff Street Hamtramck, Michigan 48212

Detroit River Days

It’s hard to believe that it is already time for River Days, but here we are.

There is a pretty big change this year. This year the three day festival will be held at West Riverfront Park, which will soon become the Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Centennial Park.

This year the musical performances are pretty great. The headliners this year are Smokey Robinson, Brandy, and Faith Evans.

There are plenty of live musical performances this weekend, you can find the schedule here.

The Tuskegee Airman air show is returning this year, and there will be three three shows. The show will be at 1:00 p.m. on Friday and 3:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

If you get hungry you will have plenty of options for food. This year the World’s Largest Food Truck Rally will be joining the festivities. Over 100 food trucks from far and wide will be coming to River Days. Yes, I said over 100 food trucks. I agree that’s a lot of food trucks. You can check out the participating trucks here to try and figure out what you want to eat before hand.

It is $5 a person to get into River Days, the proceeds go to support the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy. You will also receive $3 to use at one of the many food trucks.

You will be able to get into River Days for free on Friday between 11:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

Friday, June 21 through Sunday, June 23 11:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m.

West Riverfront Park is located at 1801 West Jefferson, Detroit MI 48216

Chandler Park Skate Jam & Fundraiser Kickoff and Detroit’s Riverside Park Skatepark Grand Opening

This Friday is International Go Skateboarding Day and there is plenty of things going on around town to celebrate over the weekend. I wanted to highlight two events that are going on at two different skateparks within the city. Both of which were recipients of a matching grant from the Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Foundation and the Tony Hawk Foundation Built to Play initiative.

First, on Friday there will be a skate jam and fundraiser at Chandler Park over on the east side.

So, grab your skateboards, roller skates, and inline skates and head over to the new park. There will be food and music to enjoy as well.

Friday, June 21 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Chandler Park is located at 12600 Chandler Park Drive Detroit, MI 48215

Then on Saturday the new Skatepark at Riverside Park will be having its grand opening.

The park is located on West Jefferson, just west of the Ambassador Bridge.

There will be a ribbon cutting celebration, but more importantly there will be skateboard clinics and professional skateboard demonstrations during the event.

There will also be food, music and giveaways.

Saturday, June 22 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. (open skating starts at 12:30 p.m.)

Riverside Park is located at 3621 W. Jefferson, Detroit, MI 48216

Gabriel Hall Sunday Funday Po’Boy Pop-Up

I have been craving a good Po’Boy sandwich for the past few weeks. I just haven’t had a chance to get down to New Orleans to get one.

But, this Gabriel Hall Sunday Funday pop up is the next best thing.

On Sunday Gabriel Hall will be popping up at Nancy Whiskey and will be serving three types of Po’Boys and Voodoo Fries.

They will be pre-selling menu items this time around, so you will need to do some advanced planning if you want to go. You can order your sandwiches and fries here. You need to order by Friday.

Sunday, June 23 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.

Nancy Whiskey is located at 2644 Harrison Street Detroit, Michigan 48216
