I might be on my family vacation, but that doesn’t mean that I get to take a break from bringing you all of the cool things happening in our city.

There is a lot happening around town, so let’s get this show on the road!

Friday Night Motown Review

Looking to start your weekend right with a nice happy hour? Maybe you want to throw in a beautiful garden and some live music?

I’ve got just the thing for you.

The Whitney is hosting a Friday night Motown Review in the garden every week until August.

This week the musical guest is Apropos.

Happy hour is from 4:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. and Apropos will take the stage at 7:00 p.m.

There is no cover charge in June, so this is your last chance to get in there for free.

Friday, June 28 from 4:30 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.

The Whitney is located at 4421 Woodward Avenue Detroit, Michigan 48201

Jazzin’ At the Vanity

It’s time to head over to the Jefferson-Chalmers neighborhood, because the Vanity Ballroom is going to be hopping this Friday and Saturday during the Jazzin’ At The Vanity.

Technically it will be the area outside of the Vanity…but that’s ok.

There will be plenty of jazz and blues musicians performing throughout the two days.

In addition to the music there will be food, visual art, tours around the Jefferson-Chalmers area, and a marketplace.

Jazzin’ At The Vanity is an extension to the ever popular Jazzin’ on Jefferson which has been on a hiatus for the past few years.

This event is free to attend.

Friday, June 28 from 12:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Saturday, June 29 from 1:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.

Jazzin’ At The Vanity will take place on Jefferson Avenue between Newport and Lakewood

Bees in the D Bee Bee Q

I think that bees are pretty cool. I like how they pollinate and also honey is my jam.

So, if you also like bees and all of the hard work they do I have an event just for you.

The nonprofit organization Bees in the D will be throwing their third annual Bee Bee Q this Saturday at the Outdoor Adventure Center.

The money raised during the fundraiser will be used to help teach the public about honeybees and conservation and will be growing their hive population.

There will be food and cocktails and music.

Plus a live and silent auction, so be sure to bring those check books.

Tickets are $75 per person and $12 for children under 13. You can buy them here.

Saturday, June 29 from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.

The Outdoor Adventure Center is located at 1801 Atwater Street Detroit, MI 48207

Detroit Vendor Experience

This Saturday Detroit Boxed Socks will be holding the Detroit Vendor Experience at Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit.

There will be plenty of great vendors to check out.

Not only will you get to buy some cool stuff, but you’ll also get to check out the live art and performances throughout MOCAD.

There will also be a 50/50 raffle for Beyond Basics. The non profit provides books, tutors, and educational programs for Detroit Public School students.

Tickets are $10 per person to get in. You can buy tickets here.

Ready Player One Hot Dog Eating Contest

This Sunday it’s going to be a real sausage fest over at Ready Player One. That’s because the bar and arcade will be holding its first ever hot dog eating contest.

Who doesn’t like watching people stuff large amounts of food down their throats? I know I do.

It’s $10 if you want to enter, and the winner takes the prize pool. So, the more people who sign up the bigger the prize will be. You can sign up here.

Sunday, June 30 from 12:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m.

Ready Player One is located at 407 East Fort Street, Detroit 48226

Bonus

Mulan

Don’t forget that New Center Park is showing free movies on Friday nights through the end of August.

This week the movie is Disney’s Mulan.

Personally, I’m pretty excited because Mulan is one of my top five Disney movies.

Grab your lawn chairs or blankets and come on out for a free family friendly time.

There will be snacks and drinks for sale, but you’re welcome to bring your own.

Friday, June 28 gates open at 8:00 p.m. and the movie starts at dusk.

New Center Park is located at 2998 W Grand Boulevard Detroit, Michigan 48202
