A video uploaded early Wednesday morning shows a tow truck running into a number of cars outside of The Views bar near Grand River and Telegraph in Detroit has gone locally viral on Facebook.

It also shows a number of frantic people and a woman smashing the driver’s side window of a Total Car Care tow truck.

It’s a public video and captioned, “Drunk/impaired Tow truck driver hits 7 cars outside of views bar including hitting my friend while he was parked in his car smh”

We’ve dug into the details on this story. More on that after the video.

The creator of the video doesn’t appear to use their legal name, only a nickname “Heat inthe D Von.” The video has more than 56,000 views and 2,800 shares as of this writing.

Be warned that the video below (linked here) contains foul language.

According to the Detroit Police Department, the driver of the tow truck lost control of his vehicle in the early morning hours of Wednesday, April 17. There were eight vehicles involved in the accident, including the tow truck.

Although the caption on the video says that the the tow truck driver was drunk, the manager for Total Car Care, the company that owns the truck — named “Abe” (he withheld his last name) — when contacted by Daily Detroit said that the unnamed tow truck driver took a breathalyzer and was cleared by Detroit Police.

“Abe” said he took the tow truck driver to the hospital for treatment of his injuries and a police report was filed.

The accident report also said that there was no indication that the driver was intoxicated at the time. There was no ticket issued and no charges have been brought.

We’ve reached out to the creator of the video and are awaiting his comment.

We’ll update this story as we know more.
