We know, we know.. it’s getting colder in the D. And it’s also coming up on the holiday season. In what’s become an annual tradition, a large Christmas Tree now sits atop the fountain in the heart of downtown Detroit’s Campus Martius Park.

Some fast facts:

  • The tree is more than 60 feet tall and is a Norway spruce native to Michigan
  • It came from Cadillac, Michigan more than 200 miles away from the city
  • The tree weighs more than 10,000 pounds
  • From now until the tree lighting on November 21 there will be 19,000 multi-colored LED lights and sparkling red and sliver ornaments added to the tree, and this will be the 11th year DTE Energy will have made the tree lighting possible.
