Are you ready for the final weekend of August? I know I’m not. I think I need to take a quick trip up north or something before summer is officially over.

There are a lot of fun things happening around town this weekend.

Much Ado Para Nada

This weekend is the final free show for the season for Shakespeare in Detroit.

The theatre group will be performing their version of the Shakespearean comedy Much Ado About Nothing in Campus Martius on Friday, Saturday and Sunday night.

Don’t forget to bring your blankets, lawn chairs and snacks.

All performances begin at 6:30 p.m.

Campus Martius is located at 800 Woodward Avenue, Detroit 48224

North Cass Neighborhood Sidewalk Sale

On Saturday over 40 small businesses along Cass Avenue in Midtown will be having a sidewalk sale.

This annual event is always a lot of fun. There will be discounts, specials, live music, and activities for kids.

You can find the list of all of the participating small businesses and the sales they are offering on the Facebook event.

Don’t forget to check out the Detroit Clothing Circle for their deep deals, as referenced by the advertisement.

Dream of Detroit Street Fair

Looking for a family friendly event this weekend? The Dream of Detroit Street Fair is your answer.

The street fair will be held along two blocks of Woodrow Wilson Street on the westside of Detroit.

There will be live music and theatrical performances from the Detroit Repertory Theatre. Plus a men’s 3 on 3 basketball tournament, African dancing classes for women, and a kids zone with a bounce house and free face painting.

The HUDA Clinic will have volunteer physicians at the fair to offer free basic health assessments throughout the day.

The street fair will also have a marketplace with vendors selling food, drinks, clothing, and other items.

The fair is being hosted thanks to a partnership between the Muslim Center, HUDA Free Community Health Clinic, the HUDA Urban garden, the Detroit Repertory Theatre and the community organization Dream of Detroit.

Hours: Saturday, August 2511:00 a.m.- 7:00 p.m.

The Muslim Center is located at 1605 West Davison in Detroit.

The Weird Homes Tour

I have always been a fan of architecture, so when I heard about the Weird Homes Tour a few months back I knew I had to include it in the City 5.

The tour consists of seven quirky homes that you can go inside of and talk to the owners. The VIP package includes an additional stop at the Wheelin’ on Woodward home.

It’s a self guided, self driven tour so you can go at your own pace and take your time. I really dig it.

A portion of the proceeds from each ticket will be donated to the non-profit United Community Housing Coalition.

Tickets are $30 per person or $45 for the VIP treatment (not only do you get an additional stop but you can get a t-shirt or hat.) You can buy them here. You can buy tickets the day of, but the price goes up to $37 per person.

When: Saturday, August 25 from 10:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m.
