Signs Seem To Be Pointing To More QLINE Routes In Detroit

It’s not hard to think that there is a concerted push for more QLINE routes, especially in Greater Downtown. It’s important to watch because when they focus, what major funders want they often get in this town and money starts to appear. The latest hint of a new QLINE route would be from downtown to the old Michigan Central Train Station, as Matthew Maroun (the son of Billionaire Matty Maroun) hinted in a long interview interview with Crain’s as part of their coverage for their Homecoming ev...

Detroit's QLINE Streetcar Could Go Much Faster. Here's What Needs To Happen

One of the most anticipated – and debated – additions to Detroit’s streets is that of the QLINE. That’s the 3.3 mile long streetcar that begins service down Woodward Avenue on May 12. One of the early complaints about the QLINE online is the speed of the streetcar. End to end, it takes about 25 minutes (as timed by our riding it today). Here’s the thing. It could go much faster, if there were more governmental cooperation. It turns out the speed of the streetcar isn’t as much limited by mech...

They’ll also have wi-fi, vertical bike racks and climate control. The QLINE will allow for station-level access for pedestrians as well as persons who use mobility assistance devices such as wheelchairs. “M-1 RAIL will be receiving a new vehicle approximately ever five weeks unt...

QLINE Streetcar Now Scheduled To Run Past 10 p.m. On Weekends, Because Of Course It Should

As we get nearer to actual service beginning on one of Detroit’s most anticipated projects in a long time, the QLINE streetcar, word is coming through the Freep that the hours are going to run longer than the originally planned 10 p.m. * 6 a.m.-11 p.m. Monday through Thursday * 6 a.m.-midnight Friday * 8 a.m.-midnight Saturday * 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Sunday * Holiday hours are expected to vary, but a schedule has not been released. After 60 Years, Detroit Has A Streetcar Again (PICS, VIDEO)

If you doubted that the QLINE/M1-Rail was going to happen, it doesn’t get more real than the first streetcar being delivered. Daily Detroit was on hand in New Center as the first of six streetcars arrived near the Penske Tech Center. These are the first full-service streetcars since 1956 (that’s 60 years) to hit the streets of Detroit. There was a limited trolley from Washington Boulevard to the Rencen for awhile. Over the course of a few hours, the streetcar will be unloaded and placed on t...

The First Streetcar For Detroit's New QLINE Expected To Arrive Wednesday

If you drive down Woodward from about Grand Boulevard to Campus Martius, you can see the overhead lines being strung up, the rails getting completed and the stations starting to pop up. We’re getting closer to QLINE becoming a reality. The latest news is that the first streetcar from Brookville Equipment Corporation is set to arrive Wednesday, two months ahead of the initially projected timeline, according to information provided by the M1-Rail organization, the nonprofit overseeing the projec...

Track Testing To Begin On Detroit's New Streetcar This Tuesday

The Q-Line (formerly called M1-Rail) is starting to feel more like a real thing instead of a number of renderings on the internet. If you’ve been downtown, in some parts you’re seeing overhead lines go in and platforms begin to appear for future stations. Another step forward begins tomorrow when a small motorized inspection car called a “speeder” will travel on Woodward between Larned and Adams streets. The speeder, according to officials, ensures that the route is free of obstructions taki...

It’s American-Made Streetcars For Detroit's New Mass Transit Project

M-1 RAIL announced that it has found a company to design, build, test, and certify six individual streetcars that will run along Woodward Avenue. The company, Brookville Equipment Corporation, has displayed a strong performance in providing streetcars for Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART). “Selection of Brookville provides M-1 RAIL with a company that has experience constructing streetcars that best meet this project’s technological requirements and timeline, ” said Paul Childs, chief operating...

Detroit's M-1 RAIL Streetcar Construction Is On Track, To Reach Peak In 2015

Detroit heads even further down the rails to its mass-transit future as the M-1 RAIL continues its construction even as the thermometer drops. “Working through the winter lays the groundwork that allows for our construction crews to quickly ramp up once the weather breaks,” said M-1 RAIL Chief Operating Officer Paul Childs. “Next year construction will reach its peak. We have an aggressive schedule planned that will ensure we are able to deliver the project safely and on time in 2016.” Here’...
