In Ferndale, Angst Rises Alongside Housing Prices And New Developments

My wife and I talk a lot lately about what to do with our house. We just passed our 13th anniversary of buying our first home here in Ferndale. We’ve had two children in that time. Our home is, at long last, no longer under water, and we think we could probably turn a decent profit from selling it. Like anyone else, we’d like to upgrade to something a bit nicer. We want to stay in Ferndale. But we’re not sure we can afford to buy a home here anymore. Ferndale is in the midst of an incredib...

A new vegan restaurant located in the Royal Oak/Birmingham area is opening on Monday, April 9. GreenSpace & Go is a fast-casual take on Ferndale’s GreenSpace Cafe. That means the menu is all plant-based, but this version of the concept is all about quick serve options. A national David vs. Goliath story in the film business has the side effect of pitting two local theatres that show art and specialty films against each other. Four small theatres, including Cinema Detroit located in the Detroit’s Midtown neighborhood, are suing Landmark Theatres and their parent company 2929 Entertainment (owned by billionaire and Shark Tank star Mark Cuban), claiming that the chain is coercing agreements from film distributors. The suit was filed by Cinema Detroit as well...

A popular downtown Royal Oak Restaurant is making moves to the city of Detroit. La Dulce opened in downtown Royal Oak and made waves for their unique look. We had an opportunity to be part of Detroit’s growing culinary scene that we coul...

Royal Oak's New Facial Bar Skinphorea Aims To Bring Education, Affordability To Skin Care

Earlier this month I had the opportunity to check out a new facial bar in Royal Oak called Skinphorea. Picture a spa where you go for facials. Are you picturing the day spa where you are dressed in a robe? Where you can spend all day there getting all sorts of things done to your body? Take that image and toss it out. Just throw it out the window. Skinphorea is a new take on your average spa that offers facials. They specialize in express facials and waxing. Each facial is performed at a “ba...
